What is minimoto racing?
Minimoto Racing is one of the newest motorsports to hit the UK The Bikes have 39cc 2 stroke engines available in different states of tune from 3.4 - 12hp. There are junior classes for riders as young as 6 years old, and two classes for the older riders, Production which have standard engine and Supers which can be tuned but must remain at 39cc.

Where did mimimoto racing come from?
We are a bit unsure of the exact history of Minimoto, but we think it either originated in Italy or Japan and is as popular in those countries as the UK is with Schoolboy Motorcross or Junior Karting. Have you ever wondered why people like Valentino Rossi are just starting at national level?, well it's because in the U.K, until now, minimotos have been seen as a bit of fun, something for a stag weekend, where as the Italian and Japanese are racing minimotos before they can walk and are competing on big bikes at a national level by the time they are 12 and at world level as young as 14. The aim of Minimoto Racing Ltd is to help minimotos in this country become as popular as it is in the rest of Europe.

What should I look for when buying a minimoto bike?
Bikes and Specifications - a quick guide to buying a Minimoto: When buying a minimoto it is important to choose the bike you want first and the decide what colour or replica paint scheme you want afterwards. Many people buy the wrong bike purely because it was painted in fancy colours. All of our replica paint schemes are done in this country giving you free choice rather than of those we have in stock. Below is a brief description of the different types of bikes so you may get an idea of what you want. Please feel to phone or email with any questions.

2.5HP: This is purely aimed at the car park toy or the fireplace ornament. Most clubs will let you race although they will be far outclassed by the 4.2hp bikes.
4.2HP: The 4.2hp bike is probably the cheapest bike of them all to run. There are two classes for both juniors and adults and as the bikes are equal the racing comes down more to rider skill.
6.2HP: These bikes are the quick toys and are ideal for the person wanting a fast bike but not quite up for racing yet. A few small modifications though will soon have it up to production specifications.
Production: This is the most popular class. Most bikes come ready to race and produce between 7.5 and 8hp. These bikes are pretty reliable but routine carb and clutch adjustment are required.
Supers: This is the 500gp class of minimoto. These bikes are extremely fast and need a lot of care and attention. If you have never been around a racing two stroke before, this is not the bike for you.

How much will it all cost?
New bikes cost between £850 - £2000 depending on the specification and the model of the bike, used bike prices also vary, but are usually £300 cheaper than new bike prices. - Most clubs have indoor and outdoor practice sessions where it's possible for you to try first before emptying your pockets to treat yourself, If you are still unsure then it is usually possible for you to hire a bike for a race meeting and have a real taster.

Pocketbikes come fully assembled (minus the footpegs), and with their "clip-on" style handlebars folded back. Simply remove the bike from the packaging, unfold and tighten the handlebars, tighten the hand controls, attach the footpegs and away you go. It's recommend that you check your entire bike for loose fasteners, as it will have travelled many miles by air and land, and things do vibrate loose in shipping.

Can I ride my minimoto on the public highway (road)?
Simple answer - NO! If you drive a minimoto anywhere except on private land where permission has been given, you could face a driving ban, a fine and a criminal conviction. If you ride illegally your bike could be taken and crushed. Get the facts on where to legally and safely ride your minimoto. Click here for more information.

Some bikes are available in 'mini' and 'midi' sizes to allow fat b**tards to give it a go. The 'midi' bike is approx 10% bigger than a 'mini'. This gives riders an extra inch between the pegs and the seat. As a general rule the 'mini' bikes handles that little bit better as it is smaller but some riders need that extra legroom.

Can I buy a minimoto version of my neighbours Honda Fireblade?
The bikes, although available in many replicas, are not made by any of the big bike manufacturers. There are currently six manufacturers known to us, 4 Italian, 1 Czech and 1 British. The biggest manufacturer is Polini who not only make the chassis and bodywork but also the engines. GRC, DM and Pasini all also Italian produce their own bikes but use the Polini engines and GEM who are based in Hampshire in England also make their own chassis and bodywork and use the Polini engine. Blata, the Czech manufacturer make a 3.4hp model which is powered by a 39cc industrial engine (strimmer or chainsaw ) and also do a Polini engined model but at the moment it is not available in the U.K.
